What is the Paint Your Pet Workshop?

  • This is a 8-week interactive workshop teaching you how to create your own painting of a dog or cat.
  • You will create your own painting. Rebecca will provide the steps, suggestions, and personal feedback along the way.

We will take our time, starting at the very beginning with materials, planning, colors, and drawing, proceeding to the finished painting.


About the Workshop

Dates: Monday, May 5 – July 1, 2025

Instruction will take place at the beginning of the week. You will have about 2 weeks to work on your painting before the next lesson.

  • The first lesson begins Monday, May 5, 2025. The live session will take place at 11 am NYC time.
  • Attendance at the live session is optional. You can watch the video lessons following the broadcast.
  • You can watch and re-watch video lessons until August 1, 2025.

What is the Price?

  • If you are subscribed to the Watercolor Membership, price will be $39. US currency.
  • If you are not subscribed to the watercolor membership, the price will be $69. US currency.

Why are there two different prices?

I want you to have access to all of the tutorials in our school to use as a guide in your painting. If you are already subscribed to the membership, you have access to the tutorials, so the price will be lower.

About the Lessons

We will break the steps down into small, manageable parts.

  • Each week, we will focus on one step of your painting.
  • Rebecca will present lessons at the beginning of the week. You will have 2 weeks between lessons to practice, work on your painting, and receive personal feedback from Rebecca.
  • Lessons will be presented as "live" sessions beginning at 11 am (NYC time.) If you can't be there live, you can watch the replay videos at your own pace.
  • Note: We all work at different paces. It's ok if you get behind in your painting. You will have access to these lessons until August 1, 2025.

Put everything in place for a strong start to your painting!

  • May 5: Choosing your photo, layout, size, prepare watercolor paper
  • May 6: Choosing colors
  • May 7: How to create your drawing and transfer to watercolor paper

By the end of this step, your eyes, nose, and optional mouth will be close to completion.

How does instruction work?

Rebecca will present live lessons on the subject(s) of the week. Then, you will work on your own painting, based on the goals for the week. Rebecca will provide private, one-on-one feedback on your painting.

I can't attend the live sessions. Is there a recording?

Yes! Attendance at the live sessions is optional. You can watch the video replay following the broadcast.

Will the video lessons be available to watch over and over again after the class is completed? Yes. You will have access to the video lessons until August 1, 2025.

What if I can't keep up?

It's ok if you fall behind in your painting. I encourage you to take your time. You have access to the lessons until August 1, 2025.

What Will I Learn?

  • You will learn each step in how to paint your own dog or cat from the very beginning to the very end.
  • A formula that you can apply to your own paintings.
  • How to transfer the drawing to the watercolor paper, mix and layer colors, as well as brush techniques.


Do we provide you with a photo of our pet in advance? It would be helpful if you would provide a photo of you pet in advance so I can develop instruction that will fit your vision.


What size can the portraits be? Your painting can be any size that you prefer. We will discuss how to choose a size in the first week of instruction.


I’m still a beginner, should I wait until I have more experience? What kind of watercolor expertise is needed for this course?

It will be helpful to have some watercolor experience. If you are a complete beginner, it may overwhelming to take this workshop.

If you aren't sure, and would like to get a bit more practice under your belt, I will be offering the course again in the future.

How will this be different from the tutorials in the watercolor school? This workshop is for people who prefer more assistance and personal feedback than the self-paced courses in the school. I will be able to provide instruction applicable to your subject and some feedback as you create your painting.

Will we be sharing our work in progress with everyone else? I'm shy about showing everyone.

Sharing your work in progress is completely optional. Some people love to share, but others prefer not to, and I totally understand.

Will I learn better techniques for mixing colors? Yes, we will be discussing choosing and mixing colors during the first week of instruction.

Will it be possible to have a very detailed description of how to decide what to include/exclude in the drawing? Yes, we will discuss how to create your drawing during the first week of instruction.
